Books and Historical Sources

The studies below provide reading lists for particular questions. They include works that defend the pre-tribulation position and works that challenge it. Follow the question you are investigating rather than treating every book as an endorsement of the site’s conclusions.

Comparing rapture views

The biblical case for the pre-tribulation rapture brings together the principal passages and a reading list for the competing chronologies. For one disputed passage at a time, begin with Matthew 24 or Paul’s last trumpet.

Language questions

“Meet the Lord”, the Greek words for Christ’s coming, and apostasy or departure address different vocabulary disputes. Their reading lists identify language tools and commentaries relevant to those passages. A word’s possible meaning must still be tested in the sentence where it appears.

Church-history questions

The pre-Darby study examines the historical evidence used to argue that rapture teaching predates Darby. The Ribera, Lacunza, Irving, and Darby study addresses the separate claim of a chain of influence from Jesuit futurism.

For a historical claim, the wording, date, authorship, and surrounding argument matter. Similarity between two writers does not by itself demonstrate that one borrowed from the other.
